Are you passionate about hunting and fishing in California? Do you support the Second Amendment? Are you eager to contribute to a local initiative that supports the hunting community? Most importantly, do you want to ensure that future generations—your children and grandchildren—have the same opportunities to enjoy California’s outdoor sports that you’ve had? If so, the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of SCI (SFBA) wants YOU to join the Board of Directors as a volunteer!

The SFBA was incorporated as a non-profit organization in October 1983 under Section 501(c)(4). When Safari Club International (SCI), a national 501(c)(3) organization, established the Safari Club International Foundation (SCIF 501(c)(4)), SFBA aligned with this new entity. As a result, SFBA continues to operate under SCIF’s guidelines and maintains its status as a 501(c)(4) organization.

With such a long history, it’s no surprise that the Bay Area has experienced its share of ups and downs, particularly when it comes to hunting and firearms. As a 501(c)(4) organization, we do not engage in political advocacy. However, we make it a priority to keep our members informed about important developments and actions being taken at the local, state, and federal levels, ensuring they have the knowledge needed to stay informed and involved.

SFBA has primarily focused on humanitarian, conservation, and educational efforts within the Bay Area, though we occasionally support national or international activities that align with our mission. Over the years, SFBA has actively supported veterans’ hunting and fishing trips, donated supplies and funding to local educational programs, and backed outdoor education initiatives and conservation efforts across the state.

In June of this year, we will be holding our annual election. Several of our officers are termed out and need to be replaced. Won’t you consider joining us and stepping into a leadership role?

Here’s what the requirements and duties of a Board member involves:

  • You must be a member of both SCI and SFBA in good standing and reside at least part-time in California.
  • Your term of office will last for two years.
  • You must attend monthly Board meetings (usually via conference calls) as scheduled. Typically, there are ten calls each year, with November and December combined and no meeting in January. Additional meetings may be scheduled at the discretion of the President.
  • You must volunteer for at least one fundraising event, though all Board members are expected to participate in all fundraising efforts whenever possible.
  • You must join one or more committees. Committees include: Nominating, Budget, Membership, Fundraising, and others as needed, as determined by the President.

What we achieve as an organization is directly tied to the strength of our membership and Board. YOU hold the key to ensuring a future where your children can continue to hunt and fish in California.
